Spotlight on safety – vehicle signage blitz

Commercial Passenger Vehicles Victoria is putting the spotlight on safety with a series of targeted checks over the coming months.

Our compliance officers work all year round to make sure drivers and passengers know the rules and stick to them.

But over the next few months we’ll be carrying out extra targeted operations designed to help keep everyone safe.

In December, our officers will be specifically checking that booked commercial passenger vehicles (CPVs) are displaying the correct commercial passenger vehicle signage.

All commercial passenger vehicles must display a sign, symbol, notice or label identifying it as a CPV when it is in service. This signage must be positioned so it cannot be removed by someone sitting in the driver’s seat. Drivers who fail to indicate the vehicle is a CPV will be fined $1983, and if the signage is in the wrong position, they will be fined $413.

Checks will be carried out across Victoria and while the focus is on signage, our officers will also be looking out for any other issues with vehicles – so it’s a good time for everyone to make sure they are complying with the law.

Future campaigns will focus on other aspects of safety and compliance.

Stay up-to-date with our compliance activities by following us on Facebook @CPVVic and read more about vehicle signage.

Customer Service Centre to close permanently

CPVV’s Customer Service Centre located on the Lower Ground Floor, 1 Spring St, Melbourne, will close its doors permanently at 4pm, Friday 1 November.

A key part of this decision has been informed by the digital transformation of our services. In particular, moving almost all applications to online platforms has resulted in a dramatic decrease to the number of visitors to our Customer Service Centre.

Our customers will continue to receive excellent services through our online and other customer service channels.

Please visit our web page Customer Service Centre to close to access:

  • our customer service directory on how to access all of our customer service offerings once the services closes
  • questions and answers about the CSC closure
  • further contact details, should you require more information.

Update to Mutual Recognition – August 2019

We have introduced some welcome changes for industry to our Mutual Recognition processes.

New South Wales commercial passenger vehicle drivers can now apply for mutual recognition in Victoria.

Interstate drivers, who have held driver accreditation in Victoria within the last 6 months, may be granted Victorian driver accreditation without further interstate enquiries.

This move will prove practical for commercial passenger vehicle drivers based in border towns, such as Albury-Wodonga.

Visit our Mutual recognition page to learn more about our recent changes and to download our updated mutual recognition declaration form.
