Proof of identity

Applicants for Driver Accreditation must show proof of identify (POI).

Identity checking requirements

After you have submitted your application for driver accreditation, we will send you a confirmation email with instructions for how to access the driver accreditation document upload portal.

We ask that you follow a simple two-step process:

Step one: Upload the following documents to the driver accreditation document upload portal

  • your current valid Victorian driver licence
  • medical Assessment form
  • 100 points of identification (if requested)

Step two: Upload a self-captured photo (selfie)

  • a self-captured photo (selfie) of yourself holding your current valid Victorian driver licence next to your face. Ensure this is a headshot and the driver licence you are holding is clear and readable. This helps us confirm the link between you and the identity you are claiming.

Differing name or change of name

If you have a  a difference in name between your primary and secondary evidence documents (e.g one document as your maiden name, while the other has your married surname), you will need one of the following documents:

  • Marriage certificate issued by a Registrar of Births, Deaths & Marriages in Australia
  • Divorce papers (bearing the name being reverted to)
  • Deed Poll (pre November 1986 in Victoria), or
  • Change of Name Certificate (post November 1986 in Victoria).

Proof of Identity requirements for conducting a National Police Check

As part of the Driver Accreditation process, you may be required to provide a 100 point proof of identity for the purpose of conducting a National Police check.

Minimum Identity Requirements

Please note: We can't accept credit or debit cards as proof of identity documents.

You must provide:

  • at least one document from either Category A or Category B, that is, you do not need to provide documents from both categories, as long as all other minimum requirements are satisfied,
  • one of your identity documents must be a copy of your Victorian driver licence,
  • the combination of documents supplied should, as a minimum equal a total of 100 points, and
  • evidence of your full name and date of birth.

Category A

  • Birth Certificate
  • Australian Passport (current, or expired within the previous two years, but not cancelled)
  • Australian Citizenship Certificate
  • International Passport (current, or expired within the previous two years, but not cancelled)
  • Other document of identity having same characteristics as a passport e.g. diplomatic/refugee (ImmiCard).


Your first Secondary Document will score 40 points, any additional documents will be awarded 25 points each

Category B

  • Current Licence or Permit (Government Issued) e.g. drivers licence
  • Working with Children/Teachers Registration Card
  • Aviation Security Identification Card/Maritime Security Identification Card
  • Public Employee Photo ID Card (Government Issued)
  • Department of Veterans' Affairs Card
  • Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card or Health Care Card
  • Current Tertiary Education Institution Photo ID
  • Reference from a medical practitioner (must have known the Applicant for a period of at least 12 months)

40 or 25

Each Supplementary Document will be awarded 25 points

Category C

  • Birth Extract
  • Foreign /International Drivers Licence
  • Proof of Age Card (Government Issued)
  • Medicare Card/Private Health Care Card
  • Council Rates Notice
  • Property Lease/Rental Agreement
  • Property Insurance Papers
  • Australian Tax Office Assessment
  • Superannuation Statement
  • Seniors Card
  • Electoral Roll Registration
  • Motor Vehicle Registration or Insurance Documents
  • Professional or Trade Association Card


If you wish to use more than one of these documents they must be from different organisations

  • Utility Bills (e.g. telephone, gas, electricity, water)


Special provisions only to be used if 100 point check above cannot be met

Recent Arrival – have been in Australia for 6 weeks or less

Note: The full 100 point check is required when the applicant has been in Australia for longer than 6 weeks

  • Current passport and proof of date of arrival
