The $1.05 per trip levy

A per trip levy applies to every commercial passenger vehicle trip commencing in Victoria.

This levy is set under the Commercial Passenger Vehicle Industry Act 2017 (the Act) and is calculated in line with the consumer price index (CPI).

As of 1 July 2022, the levy is $1.05.

If a trip is booked, the booking service provider (that is, the business taking the booking) is responsible for paying the levy.

If a trip starts at a rank or a passenger hails the vehicle, the driver must is responsible for paying the levy, unless they are employed by the vehicle owner. In this case, the owner is responsible for paying.
